Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) Level 4

This unit will challenge the learner to gain a greater awareness of how children and young people deal with these issues and how to help and support them. The learner will be required to provide evidence of how they could apply this new learning to their day-to-day role

Working with others to support individuals with additional needs and disability in a school or college

needs and disabilities.

This unit explores:

Learners will develop confidence and expertise to mentor colleagues and work with parents/carers and other professionals to ensure intervention remains effective for children, young people and adults with special educational needs and disabilities. You will explore some of the diverse needs of families, and reflect on how best to overcome barriers to partnership working with families.

In undertaking this unit, the learner will apply coaching, leadership and mentoring skills to educate and motivate staff to work effectively in partnership with others.

Implementing change in school or college setting

This unit explores:

In this unit, the learner will be required to plan, implement and evaluate change in relation to an identified theme. This will be achieved through a small-scale research project. The learner will be introduced to research, and the role of ethics when
undertaking research.

The theme selected will allow the learner to reflect on practice, use current research to produce recommendations for improvements to their own setting, implement these recommendations and summarise findings.

Course Entry Requirements – school placement required

To enrol on this NCFE Level 4 Advanced Practitioner course, you need to be already working or volunteering in a school at Level 3 to enrol on this Level 4 course.

NCFE recommends 100 hours of practical experience in the school classroom for between 3 – 6 hours per week. This observation can be completed by a qualified teacher, assessor, or a higher management level.

  • School placement is required.
  • No formal qualifications are required.
  • You must be over 16 years of age.
  • Enrolments are open all year.
