  • dealing with conflict and inappropriate behaviour

Inappropriate behaviour is behaviour which conflicts with the accepted values and beliefs of the setting and society. Inappropriate behaviour may be demonstrated through speech, writing, non-verbal behaviour or physical abuse.

Challenging behaviour may involve:

  • verbal abuse (eg. racist comments, threats, bullying others)
  • physical abuse (such as assault of others, damaging property)
  • behaviour which is destructive to the child/young person
  • behaviour which is illegal.

How this award course is assessed

After each lesson, you’ll complete an essay style assignment designed to reinforce and test your understanding of the points covered. You can submit your assignments online or by post, and your dedicated tutor will then review and offer feedback. There’s no limit to the number of times you can re-submit your assignment, so if you don’t get it right straight away, you can act upon the feedback and try again. There are no exams for this course.

Becoming a teaching assistant

Having this Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification will help you stand out from other applicants. As a Teaching Assistant, you will be expected to support the teachers with their daily tasks in the classroom so that they can concentrate on teaching the children.

Your job title could also be a Classroom Assistant or Learning Support Assistant. Your specific duties would vary depending on the school and the age of the children, but would typically include:

  • Preparing the classroom for lessons
  • Listening to the children read, reading to them or telling them stories
  • Assisting children who need extra support to complete tasks
  • Helping the teacher to plan learning activities and complete records
  • Supervising group activities and displaying work
  • Looking after children who are upset or after an accident
  • Playing educational games with the children
  • Encouraging younger children to learn through play
  • Helping with outings and sporting events
  • Carrying out routine administrative tasks

This home study course has 12 credits, meaning it’s fully recognised by all primary and secondary schools as a Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification. You can transfer any credits gained from this course to any other eligible RQF courses you intend to study.
